Business Ideas You Can Start Today

When it comes to starting your own business, there are a lot of things to think about. It’s easy to become overwhelmed with the ins and outs of starting up your very own company.

Here we are going to discuss business ideas you can start today to get you on the path to financial freedom.

One book I highly recommend reading if you’re planning on starting your own business is the $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau. Click the picture for more info and to order a copy on Amazon.

Other things to keep in mind when you want to break free of the 9-5 grind is things take time. Don’t expect immediate results, and don’t quit your job without thoroughly testing your business first. Most successful entrepreneurs start their business out as a side hustle, then gradually scale their business and when the time is right, part ways from their current company. But always leave on good terms.

So let’s explore some businesses you can start today. We will go over some options that don’t require a lot capital to get going.

  1. Affiliate Marketing

This is a great way to get your feet wet. Affiliate marketing costs no money to start, and can help you sharpen your skills in marketing and networking.

Affiliate marketing in a nutshell is placing ads for other people’s products (virtual/digital or physical) and receiving a commission when somebody buys that product through your affiliate link. You can find an example of this above with the $100 Startup book. That is an Amazon affiliate link. Simple, huh?

But what if you don’t have a website? No problem! You can place your affiliate links almost everywhere including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

One of the more popular methods of affiliate advertising can be done through blog commenting, which we will go over later.

Some great Affiliate programs:

They have been around forever, and it is 100% free to join and start advertising their products. And since all of their products are digital, you can expect commissions of 50-90%. Yes, up to 90% commissions!

They also offer excellent, step by step training which will help you get your feet wet and make your first affiliate sale. Click here for more info.

Amazon Associates

The most powerful company on planet earth is offering anybody a piece of the pie. Simply sign up for your free account and start promoting their products. Though the commissions are smaller since they are physical goods, their marketing tools make up for it. They have a huge list of banners, pictures and links for you to use which makes the process so much easier.

Wealthy Affiliate

Wealthy Affiliate is also another big name in the marketing game. They offer comprehensive training and pay you a huge cut for every person you bring into the program. Once your on the inside, they have all the tools and training you need to be successful in affiliate marketing.

2. Start a Blog or YouTube Channel

Making money from the internet has really never been easier. Starting a blog or YouTube channel is a great way to make money and build up your brand. This is not an overnight success path. This will take awhile to find your following, and get recognition. But if you’re willing to put in the work, and if you’re patient, it will be worth it.

Remember, people love information, creative content, and entertainment. As Long as you’re producing quality content on a regular basis, and get the word out to your target audience, you will find success.

The way these types of businesses make their money, you guessed it, is through ads. How many YouTube ads do you sit through while watching you’re favourite YouTube videos?

The more views and subscribers your blog or YouTube videos get, the more advertisers are willing to pay for real estate on your blog or video.

3. Dropshipping

Dropshipping is one of the easiest ways to start making money, with no money, no website and no inventory. Seriously.

The way dropshipping works is advertising a product you found on, for example Amazon, and posting that very same product for sale on Ebay….for a higher price.

Then when the item sells on Ebay, you purchase it from Amazon and have it shipped directly to the customer who bought from you on Ebay. Then you keep the difference (Profit)

For example if a coffee maker was selling on Amazon for $29.99, you would post the same things on Ebay for $39.99. When the item sells on Ebay, you purchase the item from Amazon and have the shipping address the same as the customer who bought on Ebay. After Ebay takes it’s cut, and PayPal takes their cut, you’re not left with too much. But, by doing this over and over again, you can make a LOT of money, with no money, no website, and no inventory!

4. Flipping

Flipping everyday items for profit is simply just the easiest way to make money, and you can do it with no money at all. ZERO, ZILTCH, NADA. Even if you don’t have anything you want to see at your house, no problem.

Simply go on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and Kijiji and go to their FREE category. People want to get rid of things that are cluttering up their house, and things they have absolutely no use for, and they don’t want any money for these items. That’s where you come in, pick up the free items, clean them up nicely, then relist them for profit! Voila. It’s that easy.

Also check out Garage Sales and Flea Markets, and don’t be afraid to haggle. Make an offer on something you know you can flip for a decent profit. Learn which items sell and which items are harder to move. These are all essential skills to learn when getting in the physical goods industry.

A great inspirational story to read about flipping, is The Red Paper Clip story. The true story is about a blogger, who through a small series of up-trades, went from starting out with 1 red paperclip, and ended up with a house. No Joke.

5. Interior/Exterior Car Washer

This may not interest everyone, and can be very seasonal depending on where you live. But don’t over look this one. With a limited amount of knowledge, experience and money, you can start a booming car detailing business. When it comes to cars, especially nice cars, people want them looking their absolute best and will pay a lot of money to have them look factory new again.

If you’re interested, do a search on YouTube to start training and learn how to detail cars properly, and learn what tools and cleaners you’ll need. Practice on your car and your family and friends (trust me, they won’t mind). Get some cheap business cards made up on, make a facebook page and you’re off to the races. You can easily start a car detailing business for under $100 and make upwards of $300 a day!

6. Disc Jockey

A picture is worth a thousand words…it could also be worth a thousand bucks!

This is another business that will requires some upfront costs, especially if you have no experience in the field.

You will need a high quality DSLR camera, memory cards, batteries, tripods, green screen, lighting etc. to be viewed as a pro in the field. And a course or two on photography will go a long way.

But the income potential is infinite. From selling pictures online, to being a wedding photographer, there will always be work for you if you promote yourself well. The sky is really the limit on this one, and if you’re passionate about photography, take it more seriously and start selling your shots!

9. Freelancer/Virtual Assistant

To get started, I highly recommend making a profile on these sites and start advertising your services!! Keep in mind, these are also great places to go if you need to get things done!

10. Life Coach/Consultant
